ELIGIBILITY

Athletes from any organization and any locality are welcome at any OCB event. Bodybuilding, Figure, Fitness Model and Body Transformation competitors are required to be current members of OCB to compete in OCB events. OCB memberships are $50 per year and are good for the month they are purchased through the end of the previous month of the following year (Ex. Membership purchased on 5/21/2007 is good through 4/30/2008 - Note: Memberships expire before the same show the following year. For example, if a show moved from June 11th to May 27th the following year, a one-year membership would expire prior to May 27th. A one-year membership is not valid for the same show more than once in a calendar year). OCB Members will receive a one-year subscription to Fitness and Physique Magazine, a publication that prints coverage of all OCB contests. OCB Membership forms are available in the Forms section of www.theOCBwebsite.com. Fitness competitors participating in OCB produced events are required to be current members of the IFSB (International Fitness Sanctioning Body), the Ms. Fitness organization. IFSB memberships are $50 per year and are good from the date of purchase through contest weekend of Ms. Fitness USA/Ms. Fitness World (held annually in early/mid September). IFSB Members will receive a one-year subscription to Ms. Fitness Magazine, a publication that prints coverage of Ms. Fitness events produced by OCB. IFSB Membership forms are available online at MsFitness.com. If fitness competitors participate in only the Ms. Fitness division, they only need an IFSB membership. They do not need an OCB membership in addition, unless they also participate in figure, fitness model or bodybuilding divisions.

Eligibility for the OCB Nationals:

There currently aren't any eligibility restrictions for the OCB Nationals. Pre-qualification at other OCB events isn't necessary at this time. The events are open to all regardless of past contest history and/or placements.

NUMBER OF JUDGE'S

All Bodybuilding, Figure and Fitness Model contests are to have an odd number of judges with seven being the minimum for IFPA pro qualifiers and five being the minimum for non-pro qualifiers. Ms. Fitness divisions require a minimum of four judges.

DIVISIONS

Divisions offered at events are based on age and level of experience. Divisions offered can vary from show to show. Check a particular contest’s entry form for the exact offerings at it.

Division Definitions:

101 Divisions: Open only to those who are competing in their first competition ever.

Novice Divisions: Open only to those who have not placed first in any class besides Teen within any division in the same category (Ex. Figure) with any organization (with the exception of cases where first place was won in a class that only had one competitor in it). Eligibility is verified during polygraph testing.

Masters Divisions: Open only to those falling into the stipulated age range (ex. 40+ is age forty and over).

Teen Divisions: Open only to those who are age 19 and under.

Junior Divisions: Open only to those under age 23.

Open Divisions: Open to anyone regardless of age and level of experience.

Note: Promoters reserve the right to cancel divisions that have only one entry. Competitors have the option of participating in another class, or being refunded, whenever a division is canceled.

CLASSES

Formation of classes within divisions at a show is at a promoter's discretion. Promoters may elect to use specified height or weight ranges, or may form classes by splitting divisions into equal portions by height or weight based on total number of entries in a division.

Note: Height classes should always be used for Figure

When forming classes the even portion method:

  • For divisions with 8 or fewer entries there will be 1 class.

  • For divisions with 9-16 entries there will be 2 classes.

  • For divisions with 17-24 entries there will be 3 classes.

  • For divisions with 25-32 entries there will be 4 classes.

  • If there are over 32 entries in a division, there will be 5 classes.

There are no specific height or weight cutoffs with this method. Classes are formed by dividing groups into as equal as possible parts. The shortest or lightest classes receive the fewest competitors when class sizes are not equal. For example, a division with 19 competitors would have 3 classes. If classes are split by height, the 7 shortest competitors make up Class 1. The next 6 competitors shortest in height make up Class 2. The 6 tallest competitors make up Class 3.

Crossovers: A "crossover" is entering more than one division. For example, someone may enter the Novice division and also elect to crossover into the Open division and compete in it as well.

IFPA Pro Qualifiers
Select events are designated as IFPA (International Fitness & Physique Association – www.IFPApro.com) Pro Qualifiers. The overall winners for Men’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Bodybuilding, and Figure* at these events become eligible for IFPA pro competitions.

Should a competitor who has previously won a pro qualifier win his/her class at an IFPA pro qualifier, the second place finisher in the respective class will have the choice to advance to the Open division overall judging. Should the competitor who previously won a pro qualifier win the overall, the pro card being offered at the IFPA pro qualifier can be offered to the competitor who placed 2nd in the overalls.

If urine test results come back positive for an overall winner at a pro qualifier, the competitor who was ranked 2nd in the overalls will be recognized as the overall champion and become eligible for IFPA pro competition.

Select events may be designated as IFPA Super Pro Qualifiers. The Open division's class winners become eligible to compete as pro for these events.

*Given minimum event requirements are met. Minimum requirements are that Men’s Bodybuilding must have at least 20 competitors. Women’s Bodybuilding and Figure must have a minimum of 10. If turnout is less than the minimums, winners may or may not be offered pro cards. The IFPA makes the decision on whether or not winners can become eligible, based on quality of the winners’ physiques and their performances at the show (presentation, coloring, etc.).

Tie-Breakers

Should a tie occur, the competitor ranked higher by the majority of judges is to be awarded the higher placement.

Example:

Comp

J7

B

3

2

3

8

So final placements for the tie in this case would be:

B 1st
A 2nd

Should a three-way tie occur, the competitor with the most higher placements will receive the higher placement, and the two remaining competitors' placements will be determined in the same manner described for 2-way tie-breakers (the competitor who was ranked higher by the majority of all judges on the panel is placed higher).

Example:

Comp

J2

J3

J4

J5

J7

Competitor B has three 1st place scores as opposed to two 1st place scores for competitors A and C. Competitor B would receive 1st place and the tie between A & B would be broken using the tiebreaker for two-way ties:

Example:

Comp

So final placements for the three-way tie in this case would be:

B 1st
C 2nd
A 3rd

In the event a 3-way tie cannot be broken in the above manner (can happen with 5 judges but not 7), the head judge will determine placements.
