Are you interested in possibly
promoting a bodybuilding, fitness and/or figure competition? It can be as
challenging and as rewarding as competing.
The Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders (OCB) is a non-profit (501-C3)
organization that sanctions physique contests in the United States. What can OCB
offer to promoters to assist the production of events and increase the
likelihood of an event resulting in profit?
OCB can reduce costs for producing an event, thereby increasing the chances
for promoters to make profits.
-
OCB has arrangements with
several award manufacturers where promoters can purchase trophies at
discounted rates saving up to 70% on trophy costs.
-
Promoters can obtain insurance
policies needed to rent venues through OCB at discounted rates.
-
Promoters can often gain
access to facilities they otherwise wouldn’t be able to due to OCB being a
non-profit organization (some facilities only rent to non-profit groups).
And in many cases, OCB’s non-profit status can be used to secure cheaper
rental rates for a venue.
OCB enables a promoter to offer
an avenue to a pro level for competitors who desire that.
OCB provides a
means for the athletes in a promoter’s event to receive exposure.
OCB provides more exposure for
an event, which increases the amount of people aware of its contests and
increases chances for larger turnouts at a promoter’s show.
-
OCB send its magazine to
everyone on its mailing list twice per year. The OCB mailing list contains
over 10,000 contacts nationwide. Magazines include information about all
upcoming OCB contests.
-
OCB sends postcards to its
entire mailing list twice per year, so with the magazine mailings,
competitors receive OCB contest information every three months.
-
OCB transmits periodic mass
emails to everyone on its mailing list to inform them about events.
-
OCB submits its contest
schedule to sites and magazines that publish contest listings.
-
OCB works with the
International Fitness Sanctioning Body (IFSB) and offers Ms. Fitness
divisions at select OCB events. Ms. Fitness provides additional exposure for
events by way of listing OCB shows on its website (www.MsFitness.com)
and in its magazine (Ms. Fitness), and prints contest coverage’s in its
magazine as well. Competitors who compete in Ms. Fitness divisions at OCB
events can qualify to compete a the Ms. Fitness USA and Ms. Fitness World,
which offers more opportunities by way of awarding over $45,000 in cash &
prizes, televising the events internationally, and printing extensive
coverage of them in Ms. Fitness magazine.
OCB can help a promoter get the
contacts needed for an event.
-
Databases of competitors,
judges, gyms, service providers, and potential sponsors are maintained and
can be tapped into by promoters. This can be helpful when seeking qualified
judges, contracting a photographer or videographer, soliciting sponsors,
securing an examiner to perform drug testing, etc.
-
Usually the biggest concern
someone who has aspirations to promote contest has is amount of funds needed
in advance to plan an event. There are several methods that can minimize
out-of-pocket expenses needed prior to the collection of ticket sales the
day of the contest. Delaying expenses until after receipts are in can
greatly reduce the amount needed to make an event possible.
-
There currently isn’t any
sanction fee to hold an event with OCB, and promoters keep 100% of what they
may make in profits from their events.
If you care about the treatment of
competitors and the quality of an event, and if OCB sounds like the organization
for you, or even if you’re still seeking more information about promoting a
contest, please contact OCB President
Sean Sullivan by
Email, or by
calling (774) 836-0313 to obtain an expansive OCB Promoters Kit that provides
detailed information on all aspects of event production.
